It’s never been easier to build a software application.
It’s never been harder to build technology that drives business.
Today, we have more tools and more options when it comes to building an individual application. Most focus on one part of the process and promise to be faster, cheaper, more secure, and/or more efficient for the developer. A developer chooses his favorite tools, and it is, in fact, easier than ever to turn those into a functioning application.
At the same time, however, businesses are spending 30% more year-over-year just to maintain their existing products. They are experiencing a 3x growth in cyber attacks year-over-year. And, 67% of businesses report they have a skills gap when it comes to security, infrastructure, and digital transformation. So, all of these new tools are not faster, cheaper, more secure, or more efficient for businesses. It’s quite the opposite.
Why is what’s good for the developer not inherently good for businesses?
Over time, businesses build and acquire products made up of numerous applications. In fact, the average mid-market company has 85 custom applications! Now, consider each of those built in their own way with their own tools and without designs for integration. This is where businesses struggle.
For software to enable business, we must move beyond single-application architectures and automate and standardize the components that are common among most applications – so businesses can focus on their unique business value, not common infrastructure and functionality. They can invest in innovation, not just maintenance.
This is why we built BOS – the Business Operating System.
